Work Package 2 - Understanding the pre-implementation context

Status: Completed.

This work package aims to understand the pre-PSIRF context in two ways:

1.Pre-implementation: the national picture

We have undertaken a rapid review of the literature to understand how patient safety incidents were responded to, investigated and learned from within the NHS in England, prior to PSIRF. Read our findings here.

2. Pre-implementation: the organisational experience

We have worked with six case study organisations (reflecting variation in region, organisation size, diversity of local population, staff demographic information) to understand the pre-PSIRF context using a rapid qualitative approach. Read our findings here.

Understanding the pre-PSIRF context will enable us track what happens at the six case study organisations during and following implementation of PSIRF (Work Package 4).
